Residential Learning Programme

Girl child education in rural areas in practically non-existent, and if it is, it is at its lowest.  REAP’s priority group is the tribal girl child.   At the request of the parents, REAP decided to start a boarding for tribal girls to enable them to complete high school.   But he larger purpose is to prevent early marriage which would have been the natural outcome had they dropped out of school.  The hostel was started in 2008 in Dolkhamb, Shahapur Taluka, Thane Dist., with 25 girls and today has reached 50 girls.  Apart from the emphasis on day to day studies with additional coaching in the hostel, stress is laid on all-round development of the girls.  The once shy and timid girl is slowly groomed to be a self-confident and bright and energetic person who is capable of carving her own future.   Seeing their progress, parents requested for a similar boarding for boys.  This was started last year with 17 boys.  The aim of this boys boarding is that we would be preparing future leaders in the village.
